Featured Artist: David Turner is not just another American artist who matured in the shadow of The New York School. Neither is he just another artist who happens to have been born a Jew. As is every Jew born of his generation, he is a child of the Holocaust. It is his awareness of the 1,900 year-old hatred beating at the heart of western society, a hatred that expresses itself with fearful regularity in pogrom, inquisition and holocaust, that defines his life and work. According to the artist, "Art is a snapshot of culture, a historically defined vision of society expressed within the limits of the technology and materials of the time. Collage, the art medium in which garbage is the material and form of the final object, may represent the present to the future as painting and sculpture represent the past to the present." |
